Things are still unsettled, but one thing remains very, very settled. God is good and He is always there for me and you.

God has been speaking to my heart TODAY... to LIVE and that life doesn't have to be perfect to do so. Today, I am not to be troubled. Today, I am to seek Him. Today, I am to make the most of every opportunity. And, today, I am simply saying hello to all of my blogging friends and any readers. God loves you dearly and today, He has everything you need!

I am finally feeling better . I was pretty nauseous and fatigued my first trimester and after getting a root canal and my family's flu recovery, I must say I feel much more like myself!!!!!!!!! We found out we are having a girl:)

Please forgive me for not responding to all of the wonderful emails and comments I got when I first signed off. I will probably not write again for a while, but I hesitate to give up the blog all together. It is possible we will move in the next few months and with baby girl coming, the blog has to be backburner. But, I miss you all and pray God's great blessings follow you daily!!!

I wanted to update you on my family, since I have not written for a while. As many of you know we are in a big time of transition. The biggest transition of all, however, is that I am pregnant:) We are thrilled, but all of my energies are being put into rest and my family. I am putting writing on the shelf for a season and hope to start up again in the New Year when I feel more myself. I appreciate all of your prayers. THE BIBLE ACCURATELY COPIED DOWN...

Thank you to everyone who is praying for my friend Kathy and her daughter, who I mentioned in last week's post!

When I have the opportunity to give a defense of my faith and the Bible, I will ask the person their beliefs and listen. Then, usually they will allow me to give mine. I stick to the core of Christianity and don't argue minor points. What is the core message of the Bible?--- We are all separated from God and only faith in Christ can reconcile us. What about Christ? Who do they say He is? Do they belive the Bible?

The Bible does hold up in every way and I will gladly hear any argument against it. Even if I don't know how to refute it, I will find out, because it can be refuted. The Bible stands the test of time. My husband talks about how no one is allowed to dispute the Koran. But, many want to dissect the Bible and refute it. The Bible is an open book. It can be disputed and it will prove true each time!!!

I also want to highly recommend the Apologetics Study Bible with Ted Cabal as the General Editor. I take the following information from today's post from an article in the Apologetics Study Bible by Normal L. Geisler (pages 468-469). (All quotes are from Geisler's article.)

"The Bible is the most accurately transmitted book from the ancient world." Geisler states that both the New and the old Testament's reliability is based on "their abundance, dating, and accuracy." (Though I pull from this article, I have read several other people's works and websites that give the same reasons in support of the Bible's authenticity.)

THEIR ABUNDANCE- Put in layman's terms, there have been more manuscripts found of the Old and New Testament than other texts. Supposedly Homers' Iliad has 643, the most. But, the "number of NT (New Testament) manuscripts is overwhelming (almost 5,700 Greek manuscripts)."

THEIR DATING- Both OT and NT manuscripts have been discovered more closely to the time they were written than other manuscripts. "The earliest undisputed NT manuscript is Jon Rylands Papyrus, dating between A.D. 117 and 138." Many more NT manuscripts were found dating to about 250.

THEIR ACCURACY- Both OT and NT manuscripts "were more accurately copied" than other texts. Scholars have looked at the texts that were found of different manuscripts and have found more textual corruption. The Greek Scholar A. T. Robertson estimated the Bible's accruacy of the New Testament at 99.9%, with other manuscripts people hold as authentic (Iliad of Homer and Mabharata of Hinduism) as 90 and 95% authentic respectively.

Of course, we believe the Bible to be 100% accurate as Christians. How else can you base your life on the Bible's teachings?

II Timothy 3:15-16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Recently, I have been befriended by a very kind and very New Age mom whose daughter is in my daughter's dance class. She doesn't believe in the truth of the whole Bible as we Christians do. She picks and chooses what she thinks is truth from it. She believes Christ was reincarnated and that He was the first Adam. Very different from what Christians believe, huh? She does believe Christ died on the cross and was resurrected. (I am still figuring out how/why she believes what she does.)

A lot of people, I have found, including Christians doubt the inspiration, validity, and authority of the Holy Scriptures. So, I have decided to devote my next several Tuesday writings to somewhat of an apologetic writing on the Bible along with some feedback from my relationship with my new friend. Please pray for my friend Kathy and her daughter that they would come to Christ's light and for me to have God's Word to speak and God's love to show.

Did you know?

The Bible consists of about 40 different authors. (There is some controversy over who wrote certain books.) The Bible was written over a span of 1600 years.
In over 2700 times you will see written in the Bible "The Lord Said" or "The Word of God".
"The unity of the Bible is remarkable..."
Noah created an ark (a huge floating ship). In 1844 Isambard K. Brunnell built a ship using almost the exact same ratio of the ark.

I will put more information about the Bible in weeks to come. If you want to add anything for me to include or disagree on any point, please let me know. I for one want to be able to give an answer for the hope I have, a hope that is founded upon God's Word and a personal touch from a relationship with Christ my Lord. 1. I am thankful for the mercies of the Lord and newness- new days, new months (Happy October), and new life in Him!

2. I am thankful for feeling well. I often take it for granted and was recently sick for about three weeks off and on. It has given me fresh appreciation for wellness.

3. I am thankful for good books. Right now I am reading C.S. Lewis The Silver Chair and it speaks to me on so many different levels. As much as I love a good movie, I enjoy books even more. Books take more time to read than watching a movie and books provide a wonderful escape. I can't wait to finish the Silver Chair!!!

4. I am thankful for the State Fair. I am headed there today with my family after I work. I love the rides, animals, food, the atmosphere...

5. I am thankful for the Holy Spirit. I wrote about Him on my last post. Truly, He is my constant companion and help. I am thankful for the power, and strength, and wisdom that He gives me each day!!! Blessings to you all,

I love the Holy Spirit! It amazes me that Christ's Spirit is with us at all times- to comfort, to teach, to talk to us. I just need to be more open to talk to Him and listen to His subtle ways of speaking to me:) So, lately I am quieting my heart more. This means more constant prayers throughout the day about how to spend my time and prayers for help with the daily grind. This also means not worrying or being anxious. Being sensitive to Him also means not shrugging off the ideas that come to my mind throughout the day and obeying His gentle promptings. Like, "don't do that". Or, "I was wrong, I should say sorry". Or, not being able to get someone out of my head. Yes, I should pray for them and call.

Also to help me follow the Holy Spirit, I purpose throughout my daily routine to sing a song in my heart and keep a Scripture in my thoughts to keep me focused on Him. Yes, with the Holy Spirit's more constant presence and help I find a more satisfied and meaningful day. I pray that you and I would know God's helper, the Holy Spirit, in real and tangible and constant ways that bring new joy and life.

The other day while praying God spoke to my heart. Don't you love it when that happens?

I was feeling overwhelmed with how far it seems our culture has come from God. (That is another post:) I also felt frustrated at my life and wondering how I can effect what seems void of God. God spoke to me that He is my editor. Now I have limited dealings with magazine and book editors, but I understood. Not only is He able to forgive and erase my mistakes, but He helps me write the story of my life. He corrects, He guides, He edits my life as He desires it to be read. He cares more than I do how my life is lived and read by others! He even knows the plot from beginning to end. And best of all, I am not in it alone! He is always there to help me. Suddenly after understanding all of that, I felt better, encouraged, and equipped for the task of life as I know it- sometimes difficult, most of the time challenging... always purposeful and satisfying in Him! (Normally I do WFW, but I am finding I can't always do so on Wednesdays, so I may start posting on Tuesdays some instead:)

I chose the fall theme... because here definitely it has felt more like fall with cooler weather.

1. I am thankful for changing seasons and in particular for my favorite season, fall.

2. I am thankful for fun outings during the fall such as the state fair and fall festivals on Oct 31st.

3. I am thankful for the cooler weather. Though I thrive in hot weather, I love getting bundled up and the feel of cool air on my face. (I also love a good bon fire, roasted marshmallows, and hot cider during the fall.)

4. I am thankful for the changing leaves. God certainly knows how to create a beautiful landscape.

5. Lastly, I am thankful for Thanksgiving time with family gatherings and thankful hearts. I'm also thank for a four day weekend during Thanksgiving for me and my husband. Yes, I love the fall season that approaches us. And, I am thankful for all God gives us to enjoy and that seasons come and go. GOD BLESS YOU ALL TODAY!

GOODNESS TRIUMPHS OVER EVIL WFW

I want to warn you that I am going to talk about a kidnapping story briefly, so you can choose not to read if this topic would disturb you. And, please bear with me. My WFW is long today:)

Recently, a world event caused me to question. An 11 year old girl, Jaycee Dugard, was kidnapped in 1991 and recently discovered (found) alive and physically well. (She was kidnapped by religious zealots from what I understand.) After hearing about this, I questioned some things on a deeper level and truthfully, I dealt with some fear. (I will spare you the details of what happened during those 18 years in case you don't want to know.)

Certainy everyone can agree that the Devil is in control of such evil as kidnapping and abuse. But, I must say after hearing about the Dugard lady (now 29) I entertained the age old question, "Where was God? And, where is God in the midst of horrible suffering?" Granted I fully believe that sin opened the door to that evil. My response has always been, "everyone chooses life or death and unfortunately, we all feel the effects of a fallen world with evil." But, I asked myself recently- in my heart of hearts- is that just a cliche response? What do I really believe?

I read this article that comforted and quieted my heart. Where is God? (Weekly Sermon, Bruce Wells Mar 14, 2009) I want to share excerpts here today.

"Don't murder yourself for asking the question 'Why?'. If we had time this week we could turn to the Lord Jesus Christ when He was on the cross, and some of the most famous words that He spoke were these: 'My God! My God! Why? Why hast Thou forsaken Me?'. To the onlookers of that time, as well as to those who first read the story, it seems that God did forsake Jesus, so we obviously conclude that He will forsake us as well in our darkest moments. Yet, upon continued observation of the events that unfolded after the crucifixion, the truth was revealed that nothing can separate us from the love of God, not even death (Romans 8:37-39). After Jesus was crucified, He was glorified (1 Peter 1:21). From this example alone we can be assured that even when we do not feel God’s presence in the midst of our pain, we can still believe His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5)." God showed me that Jaycee's return is a picture of His heart, His desire (not the events that transpired prior).

My Pastor also gave this incredible message and the thread to me was God's goodness. God was asking me, "Will you trust in my goodness?"

I have 100% tasted and seen the Lord's goodness in my own life, no question. And, no matter what I see or hear or experience, I will choose to believe God is great and, GOD IS GOOD! Psalm 34:8 "Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him." God's ending will prevail (even when we don't yet see it).

Bruce Wells summed it up for me with this:

"When Sir Harry Lauder lost his only son - he was killed in World War I - he turned to his best friend and he said this, and I quote: 'When a man comes to a thing like this there are just three ways out of it. There is drink, there is despair, and there is God. By His grace the last is for me'."

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42)

And, today, I ask you to please pray for the Dugard family and all involved - that God would show who He really is and that they would experience His salvation (health, peace, and wholeness). And pray for us, the Church, that our prayers would be fervent, our love tangible, and our faith even greater- to see God work miracles in the midst of despair.

I wish that I could take credit for this amazing picture, but it was taken from Photobucket. I used to hear this verse and think of people- that people are made beautiful in their time (with gifts and talents and dreams fulfilled.) Now, I apply it also to things and circumstances. There is a time for everything. And, God will make beautiful and perfect that which we are concerned about. (Psalm 138:8)

I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
Ecclesiastes 3:10-14

How wonderful that God has put eternity in each heart with a curiosity and longing for life beyond death and a desire to live for more than the mundane and the temporal. The Lord has been challenging me in the book of Esther.

I hear of so many problems, see so many needs, and yet feel so small. But GOD!

God shows us who He is in our darkest hour. He turns our mourning to gladness; He never changes. He is the same God of Esther, who moved beyond what seemed impossible... as they desperately sought for His intervention. I pray that I will be desperate to seek God for such a time as this.

PRAYERS UNHINDERED

I went to a life-transforming conference this past weekend and wanted to journal something that revived my heart and my walk with the Lord. The mini-sermon was based upon the following verse:

Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

The speaker asked us to consider why some of our prayers go unanswered. (Of course there are other "conditions"... praying in accordance with God's will, not willfully sinning etc.) But, she highlighted praying and walking with the Lord in total agreement- with our hearts - with our souls - with our minds - with our strength. In other words when we pray and obey are our hearts (our motivations, our desires) with God? Are our words with God? Are our minds with God? Are our efforts with God? Are we 100% for the Lord?

When I answered these questions for myself I could see where I have let my relationship with the Lord slide. I have become complacent. My nightime routine had become to put the kids down, watch something, stuff my face, go to bed. (BTW- I don't condemn television; it had just become my 'outlet'.) I asked myself more questions.

Am I hungering for God? Is my heart in my prayers? Are my actions and words undergirding my prayers? Sometimes yes. Other times no. This conference gave me the kick to get back to pursuing God even when quiet times feel dry, even when He seems distant... even when life is very challenging. Yes, I will love the Lord God in agreement- with my soul, my mind, my strength. My heart is stirred once more to know Him and to love Him completely!

THANKFUL THURSDAY

1. My husband is off for two weeks- no studying! HALLELUJAH!

2. My son asked to go to the potty twice today and we haven't even officially started mission potty training. THANK YOU JESUS. (Candy rewards help too:)

3. We have a roof over our heads, clothes without tears, reliable cars, more than enough food, clean water to drink, a good gospel preaching church, great loving friends, and healthy growing children. Life is good.

4. I love my husband and am so grateful for him. I told him yesterday that it bothered me that there were toys left out in the yard (probably only four toys- I am ridiculous like that.) He said it didn't bother him and I said I would pick them up later. I looked out the window this morning and he had picked them up for me. He knows my love language:)

5. I love my mom and dad. I don't ever want to take them for granted. I thank the Lord for all the wonderful years I have had with them and hopefully many more to come.

The little fellow in the picture will say bye-bye to his diapers, while I say goodbye to some of the things I enjoy (like a somewhat clean rug:) He will say hello to big boy underpants, while I say hello to extra cash each month. (Be thankful I didn't stick a photo bucket potty training picture on there. By the way there are many, including pets on toilets:)

Sometimes new things cost us something... but God loves for them to spring forth. I pray we would say hello to what God has in store for us today!

WRITE HIS ANSWER ...

Yes, I was blessed with a scholarship that covered my entire tuition. But, I will say it was a hard weekend for me emotionally, so that I was very grateful for the friends that surrounded me.

I rode with Kelly and Sonya. I also met many wonderful people, like Shelley and Susan. I also met Leslie, who I knew from the blogging world but had not met face to face. Meeting and being with all of these wonderful women helped me tremendously. (My roomate, Shelley, did not snore and likes to run. God knows me:)

Why so emotional? Well, a lot of things I heard (like the how to's of getting a book published) left me questioning. Am I called to write? Well, yes. Is this the season to write? Well, yes. Am I willing to do what it takes to "write His answer"? Pause. Pause. Will I ever get where He wants me to be in writing/living? Pause. Pause.

Kelly told me one day at lunch that she had been praying for me. I broke into tears (in front of a table of ladies no less). She offered me a lot of encouragement- about keeping first things first (my kids) and allowing my writing to "ebb and flow". In other words, sometimes we can write a lot and other times life takes over. As she said, "you still have a lot of living in you." Sonya's encouragement helped me get to the conference in the first place. (I emailed her of my pre-conference dread!) Shelley's zest for life and go get it attitude also helped my blahs. And Susan- poor Susan tried multiple times to go and get the right key to get in the dorm. She never complained and always seemed to have a smile. In short, God knew how to surround me and with whom to surround me. Joyce Magnin was an amazing workshop teacher and from the general session I learned from Susan May Warren. WOW!

For me, I am determined to be steadfast in writing for the Lord (here and submitting elsewhere) as long as God gives me the breath and strength to do so. I am so grateful for my hubby who took on the task of single parent for five days. I am also grateful for home and that to live is Christ (to live is not just to write, not even just to be mommy). At the end of every day, He really does care:)

I am blessed to be away this weekend and have some still calming waters at a writer's conference! To me, that entails some quiet time, some alone time, and some down time. HERE ARE MY FIVE:

As many of you know, I just moved. I want to say five things I am thankful for about our new home. BTW- These things are different from our old home.

1. Our huge back yard- I am thankful for a big place for the kids to play and run around!

2. Our carport- That is my kids favorite place to play.

3. Our neighbors- My daughter's best friend, Makayla, lives in our old neighborhood. We missed her so much the first few days after moving. God blessed us with another little girl, who lives right next door. She has helped ease the loss we felt from not being so close to Makayla.

4. Smaller space- People thought we might go into shell shock, because we are living in about half the space. Actually, it has been a blessing for us. We have downsized sooooooo much and it will make the next move easier. I don't know when that will be, but will be sometime next year:) WOW!

5. Grass!- We did not have a green lawn where we came from, but this house has lots of green grass. Well, it's dying some from the heat, but you know what I mean.

I thank God that He has helped us every step of the way and to have a place to call home. And, I am especially grateful that is truly starting to feel like home. I missed everyone on TT- glad to be back!

Recently, I have been frustrated with a lot of things. I am sorry one say to one of them has been my husband. Disappointments and silent resentments crept into my heart. We sat down one night and I shared that I felt I carried too much of the load in our family. That is the short story:) He offered to do a few additonal things and then he asked me a question. "How much do you pray for me a day?" I told him the honest truth--- not really at all. Maybe a quick 30 second prayer here or there. Since then, I have purposed to pray at least 10 minutes a day for my husband. And, EVERYTHING has changed- mostly in me!!! My husband is so wonderful, so helpful, but my heart kept me from seeing that. I have felt the wall in my heart and between us crumble as I pray for him daily!

I wanted to share what God is doing in my heart lately! Thank you also for your patience as I am writing less during this season. I welcome any ideas on how you ladies find the time to manage home, life, and, writing:) Lately, it has been a major struggle and I continue to pray for the help to balance it all. Blessings today! A LAVISH LOVE

I love to see my husband interact with our children. He loves them unconditionally, perfectly, and whole-heartedly. When I stop and think about how God loves us, I can't understand. Then, I remember how we love our children. They came from us, belong to us, mirror us, and are expressions of what is right, pure, and hopeful. We want our children to be protected and to have the best that life offers. Then, I understand a little more how God feels about us. Then, I think of how it would feel to be separated from our children and to not be able to hold them, talk to them, and get to know them. Once more I realize the unimaginable heartache that God must feel for His children that don't know Him personally. And, I pray that He would break my heart for those today- that I may cross their path and be used of Him to remind them- that they do have a Father that loves them, who showed His amazing love through Jesus Christ, His Son.

I rejoice with those of you who know this lavish love and pray God would use you, too, to reconcile those who belong with their Father.

WOW! I got this picture from photo bucket, because the size of the anchor amazed me. A few days ago I was walking in the woods and praying about how I felt like so much in me and around me was shaky. I felt the Lord remind me that He is my anchor. He keeps me steady. He keeps me still. My faith in Him anchors me. We move Saturday, so I am excited about that. I pray that whatever is going on in your life, you will find yourself anchored by the unmovable, wonderful, and never-changing... the Lord, Jesus Christ.

This is one of my all-time favorite Scriptures. And, you get a small peek into my daily life:)

I've always found it amazing how children LOVE to hide in small things. And, I find it equally astounding how I like feeling hidden and surrounded. We were all created with a need to feel safe, secure, and surrounded. And, daily don't we look for that type of shelter from this wild world? I can't express enough how thankful I am to have found a true hiding place in Christ.

He protects us from trouble. He surrounds us with songs of deliverance. Please stop and think about that today- SELAH! God bless you and may He help you to remain hidden... in Him!

TODAY'S MANNA: Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. I John 2:16

Wow, convicting! What do I crave? Do I lust after things? Where does my confidence rest? Do not our lives and our very extistence boil down to the answers to those questions. As a Christian, I know I should long for God, not want what everyone else has, and trust in God and not my finances or my job or even my husband's love and affection. And yet, I often find myself still on a journey to let Jesus be my strength when I am tired, my peace when I am troubled, my security when life is uncertain, and my hope when I feel down. The Lord is my Shepherd and I pray that I will turn to Him for my wants, for green pastures, for still waters, for paths of righteousness, for protection, for comfort, for goodness, and mercy. And today, I pray the same for you. May we not give into the world's lures and deceit. True love and lasting security come only from our Father in heaven!!

My thankful list today:
1. I am thankful for VACATION! We went to the Great Wolf Lodge (Williamsburg, VA) for the past few days. Wow, there is nothing quite like getting away from it all. (I am thankful as a Christian that even when I can't physically get away, in my quiet times with Christ I find a retreat from all of life's problems and cares!)

2. I am thankful for divine opportunties. I had an opportunity on vacation to talk to a young girl, who was raised in the church, but is now questioning what she believes. I told her we all must decide what we believe and who we will follow, no matter our background. Sharing how I met Christ reminded me of how AWESOME He is and how He is working in other's lives even when we can't see it.

3. I am thankful for moving. It is looking more and more like our friends may buy our home. My husband is in between jobs and more than likely will not work here in Richmond when he graduates from school in the fall. This will set us up to move quickly and easily when the time comes. All of this transition has helped me grow closer to the Lord and my sweet husband.

4. I am thankful for this semester being OVER! YES! I teach part-time and yesterday I gave my last exam. I am thankful for my job, as I love it and it is great part-time work.

5. I am thankful for water. I love the water. I loved the waterpark on vacation. I love that we will join a pool somewhere once we know where we will be living. I love to swim.

I am combining two posts that I would like to do today.

First, THANKFUL THURSDAY. I have been praying for those who have lost children or mothers or aren't yet able to be a mom. My heart, love, and prayers go out to you today and this upcoming mother's day. I know God will help fill and comfort your heart. I am thankful for my mom! (My dad will get a post in June:) Both I love so very dearly.

1. My mother sacrificed a lot for us always. She has always been there for my dad, me, my brother, and my sister. Thanks mama!

2. My mother is the kindest woman you will meet. She is always loving and thoughtful towards others. Thanks mama!

3. My mother is creative. She has always made things for me- birthday signs of what happened the past year, curtains, hair holders (can't spell squiggies???) Thanks mama.

4. My mother is a wonderful grandma. She loves each one and never greets them empty handed. Thanks grandma.

5. She is the best wife. She and my dad have stuck through it throughout the years. When I stop and think of how much they love each other, it brings tears to my eyes. Like right now:)
They taught me that love can last when two people stick to it~

Mama, I love you and thank you for helping make me become who I am today. I am so thankful you are my mother and wish I had more words or more ways to show you how much you mean to me. I look forward to celebrating with you. Love, Laurie

Today I am thankful!
1. I am thankful for my Heavenly Father!
1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

2. I am thankful that He loved me first!
1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

3. I am thankful that He provides for me.
1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

4. I am thankful that He protects me.

While waiting for my heart's desire, I sought the Lord for years. It was the hardest wait of my life thus far. At age 27, God brought His answer and satisfied my heart with Russell, a wonderful and godly man, who still brings me countless joys.

I often forget the delighting myself in the Lord part. Sometimes I camp out at the second part- the desires of my heart. The Lord has reminded me time and time again that He is to remain my delight! So, today I purpose that again. Have a delightful day in our Lord!

1. Focus on the Family- an organization that has helped my family and so many others

4. THE TRUTH!!! I am thankful that we don't have to guess what is right and wrong. I am thankful that truth is NOT objective and NOT subject to our feelings or emotions. I am thankful that the TRUTH stands alone! I am thankful that Jesus is the TRUTH and that one day everyone will acknowledge Him!

5. I am thankful for how the Lord helps me each and every day in the smallest, yet sweetest ways. I am thankful for how much He loves me and how He has never, ever let me down. I am thankful that He knows my heart and cares for me. I am thankful that He leads and guides me and fills me with what I need for each day! I am thankful for His presence that never leaves me.

I am thankful that He loved me and called me when I was far away from Him! I am thankful for His unending pursuit of me. HE IS MORE MARVELOUS THAN WORDS!

TODAY'S MANNA:
You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. Acts 22:15

Today I am reminded of how God can rescue ANYONE! Of course, I am an example, and my husband, and many more. But, I remember two stories in particular.

One weekday I was sitting at church in the foyer praying with another lady. A man walked up to the door and knocked. As he entered, he told us that he had some needs and came to see if the church could help. Most of all, he shared his amazing testimony. His Christian sister prayed for him for 17 YEARS before he surrended to Christ as Lord. WOW! Talk about perseverance.

I remember another time being at a teacher's workday. A lady came over and said hello. I went on a school trip with her years agowhen she was not walking with the Lord. At that time, she "thought" she was a Christian, because she went to church:) She had recently given her heart to the Lord and entered into a RELATIONSHIP with her Maker! She was a changed person indeed! Her whole countenance had changed. She thanked me for my "witness".

The interesting thing is that I often fight discouragement in sharing my faith. (Do people really care? Am I really effective?) Sure, I love to talk about it and believe we are all called to preach the gospel. And yet, this Scripture refers to BEING a witness. We often don't know how our mere presence, our character, and our ways affect those around us. My husband, in fact, came to the Lord in part because of a Christian man, who worked in the Navy. This man never shared his faith verbally. Russell just knew this man was different. His lifestyle and gratitude were starkly different from many of the others and Russell noticed.

So, don't underestimate the power of your life. We are witnesses without words. We are effective! God is at work, even when you don't see Him! We are His light and we are desperately needed in this dark hour. I find that as I connect with the Lord daily, I taste of His goodness again. I am recharged and so is my "witness".

May you see and hear of God's greatness and continue to BE a witness, always.

1. I am thankful for the Holy Bible. I heard someone refer to the Bible this way yesterday. It is holy and set apart indeed!!! It reminded me how truly blessed we are to have God's Word and to be able to freely read it! How awesome, too, that the Word is living and God can speak to us personally and individually through all circumstances of life.

2. I am thankful for my husband's sense of humor. He brings me a lot of joy, help, encouragement, etc.

3. I am thankful that we (Richmond, Virginia) should see the sun and warmer temperatures today. YEAH!

4. I am thankful for my blogging friends. You have given me so much encouragement lately.
I love reading everyone's blog and God speaks so much to me through them!

5. I am thankful for Church. I think I take the local church for granted sometimes. Since becoming a Christian at age 19, I have always had people there to disciple me. Since then, I have attended two congregations, at two separate times. Both congregations have had incredible Pastors who have cared for me! I am thankful that we are free to go to church without fear of losing our lives!

I want to thank my two dear friends and fellow bloggers for this award. Please visit Kat and Heart 2 Heart and Sitka at All Gods Creatures. I would urge you to please check out Kat’s latest posts Good Friday, Solemn Saturday, and Sonrise Sunday. Kat’s writings are rich and deep and to be treasured. Sitka and family also have an amazing story to tell and a unique way to share it. You will be blessed by both blogs! I would like to pass this award on to Sharlyn at Dancin' on Rainbows. Her testimony is one of overcoming and growing closer to the Lord. I know you will be touched by her blog. Kat and Andrea, your words and encouragement were very timely, because I have struggled through some discouragement lately.

Here comes my transparency. This week I have agonized over the condition and direction of our country and legislation, all of which hang in the balance. I am deeply, yet prayerfully concerned for our nation. I have also wondered about my writing and my impact in life in general. Sometimes I long to do so much for the Kingdom and feel stuck in doing what seems small or insignificant.

My husband has reminded me it is not about how many people read my blog. (How is that for revealing my heart?) Nor is it ever about having a name, or fame, or accomplishing something considered “lofty”. God has encouraged me in many ways to just be faithful with what He has given me now! I have confessed and repented of comparison, jealousy, selfishness, and faulty measures. (YUCK, I KNOW!) I realize I do fall short of Christ and my only measurement is “Am I obeying and mirroring Christ?” He really does take care of the rest.

Today I had the privilege of sharing Christ with someone who is very close to surrendering his life to the Lord. I couldn’t help thinking if I gave up, how many people would go untouched or “unreached” for Christ. Certainly, the same is true for all of us. If we quit (on whatever God has), we surrender not only ourselves, but also those who we would have reached.

So, my determination once more is to be faithful and not give up, not on my writing, not on my season of life, and definitely not on our nation.

God also reminded me that each of us is driving a train with our own set of train cars. Each train car represents a season in our lives. Some train cars are flashy red and others grey and common. All train cars are important and necessary and together they get us to God’s destination. I used to think of the shiny car as the peak of my destiny. Now, I wonder. In men’s eyes the most visible or most well known are the shiniest. In God’s eyes, He looks deeper. I believe an obedient and humble heart shines brightest before Him. Ultimately, we do all have a deeper place to walk in regards to our giftings and our destiny. But, we cannot despise or judge the train car which now carries us to that place of greater fruitfulness. God doesn’t. In fact, He designed each train car for a specific and beautiful purpose! May the God of all encouragement help you to finish every good work that He sets before you!

1. I am thankful for the physical health of my family!

2. I am thankful for my emotional health. I remember how emotionally messed up I was coming to Christ.

3. I am thankful for my husband's emotional health. He, too, was pretty rough around the edges coming to Christ.

4. I am thankful that my husband and I met each other after God had healed our hearts and lives. Two healed hearts has made for smoother sailing.

5. I am thankful for our spiritual health. "Easter", to me, is a picture of what God can overcome. Christ overcame EVERYTHING that we needed- He overcame our sin, our broken hearts, our broken minds, our broken bodies, and our broken lives. He rescued us from our pain, our destruction, our destination to Hell. Now we are Heaven-bound and heavenly-minded.

He is Risen indeed! Join with me this week and tell someone who is lost the Good News.

Today's Verse: Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (NIV)

As I pondered today's verse another Scritpure came to mind. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? (NKJV) These two Scriptures mirror one another and reflect our Christian walk and duty beautifully. Today I discuss them.

BE JOYFUL IN HOPE…. TO LOVE MERCY
God desires that we love mercy. When I forgive, when I use God’s talents within me, and when I prefer others, I find joy. In reaching out, I find the joyful life God has promised. No matter our circumstance, God’s desire to work in and through us. Through our fellowship with Christ, we can always find hope for ourselves and others, no matter the circumstance.
What reason to be joyful!

PATIENT IN AFFLICTION…. TO DO JUSTLY
God desires that we do justly. News flash! When we do justly and live righteously, persecution and trials come. But, remember we can still have hope and be joyful. We probably all can say that trials, problems, and persecutions are not our favorite things. But, aren’t they the very things that make us more like Christ and reveal what is truly eternal- hope and joy in Christ?

FAITHFUL IN PRAYER…. WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD
God desires that we walk humbly with Him. HOW AWESOME IS THAT??? Like Adam and Even before sin, we can enjoy constant and continual fellowship with God Almighty, The Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, Emmanuel, the Lord of Lord, the King of Kings, Our Healer, Our Deliver, Wonderful, Counselor, and Redeemer! Realizing that Jesus alone makes that fellowship possible keeps us humble. Our first priority must be to connect with God through prayer. Our determination must be to stay connected through affliction and through times of ease. Whatever the season, whatever the circumstance, His Command to us is the same. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.

1. I am thankful for Heaven and that the best is yet to come.

2. I am thankful for my sweet husband, who is such a good husband and dad. He shares the house load, gives me alone time, and loves the Lord. God knew what I wanted and gave me even more!

3. I am thankful for vacations. My family will have a short get-away in May. THANK YOU JESUS!

4. I am thankful for the true meaning of Easter. I will never forget being 18 years old and talking with my college roomate. I was wondering if God was real and she suggested that I go to church. (Neither of us were Christians then.) Finally, at age 19 I did and the rest is... His Story!

5. I am thankful for how God answers prayer. My mother just went into the hospital and we all prayed she would have a private room. She had to share a room instead, which made me upset. My dad shared that in retrospect her sharing a room was actually better, because she had someone to be with when my dad was not there. It reminded us that God answers with what is BEST and not just what we want. My dad said her time in the hospital was like a well written Script. Thank you Lord! I also thank God that my mom is home and doing well!!!

1. I am thankful for food. I am especially hungry this morning. I am thankful, VERY, that I have never had to worry about having something to eat.

2. I am thankful for a home to call my own. I am especially cold this morning. I am thankful that I have always known the comfort of living in a home/apartment.

3. I am thankful for clothing. I am wanting a new wardrobe lately, but can't afford one, he he:) STAND DOWN FLESH! I am thankful that I have never had to worry about being clothed.

4. I am thankful for birds. On this rainy day, hearing the birds sing reminded me of how we are all created to worship no matter the weather or circumstance.

A SECRET PLACE

Yesterday, we had a guest speaker at church, who spoke about keeping our secret place with the Lord. It convicted me of how busy I become and neglect "ministering" to the Lord.

We all have "a secret place". I have looked for a secret place in a lot of the wrong places through the years (like in a bad relationship, or in wild spending, or in self-indulgent binges), but I am thankful that I found the true secret place at age 19. There I learned that there is only One true secret place that renews, restores, and revives. Sometimes I still wander, but He gently calls me back... to the true secret place.

In this secret place I find who I am and where I belong. In this secret place I learn what I am to do, where I am to go, and find strength for the day. In this secret place, I am changed. I long for the secret place, where I can meet face to face with the One who loves you and me perfectly.

I pray today you would find a quiet moment alone with your Lord in the secret place and that from there His life would overflow into your needs, your wants, your foosteps, and your very surroundings.

Today, I am thankful for the many ways God communicates to me.

1. God often speaks to me through my daughter. Today, her little bike ran into a ditch. No big deal. She picked it up knowing that I would help if she needed it. Child-like faith! That is what God desires from us.

2. God speaks to me through "divine encounters". Yesterday I ran into the brother of a college/high school friend. As a result I have reconnected with my friend from the past. Incidentally, I have often thought of ways to get back in touch with her through the years. Right time, right place, right encounter.

3. God speaks to me through my friends. I am thankful for how loving and kind my friends are. Their kindness and grace reminds me often of God's great forgiveness. (And, a hearty you are welcome to all of the ladies that I gave awards to!)

4. God speaks to me through song. Yesterday I was VERY overwhelmed with a lot of small stuff I had to do. I started singing songs to the Lord and immediately felt His realness and closeness.

5. God speaks to me through nature. Again, when I look at this beautiful day outside I am reminded of a God who is beautiful, perfect, and passionate about us. And, I am overwhelmed that He sees and knows me--- one person at one place at one specific time. Oh, we have so much to be thankful for!!!

Today's verse is: Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Psalm 2:11

This verse reminds me of the greatness and goodness of God.

God is great and therefore, we fear the Lord. None of us stand righteous before God. So, we are thankful for Christ, the Way and our Righteousness.

God is good. He is not only Holy and All-Powerful, but He is love. He loves us and loves mercy.

We serve an AWESOME, AWESOME God.

God often saves the best for last!

It is worth the wait, because we receive God’s best and because we are changed for the better!

My husband came last! (I met my husband after a bunch of bad relationships. God would always speak to my heart to WAIT! He told me again and again that He had saved the best for last. GOD WAS RIGHT.)

Other lasts…

Jesus came last! (He is the best of the Prophets! He is the Alpha and Omega!)

Heaven is last! (It is the best place we will ever live! It is our true home.)

When we wait on God, we don’t settle for less than His best. During the waiting, we grow in character, which ultimately helps us serve Him and live more fully! When we don’t wait and put matters into our own hands, we get an Ishmael and are ultimately disappointed.

Whatever you are waiting on, fill your hearts and minds with God’s Word, God’s love, and God’s peace. It isn’t easy to wait, but it is always, always worth it!

A prayer for you: Lord, bless my sister with grace to wait on You in prayer. May she wait also for what You desire to bring her. Help her to not settle for anything less than your Word and your best! Surprise her today with just how GREAT You are! In Jesus precious name. Amen

I am thankful for all the help I receive daily. I NEED LOTS OF HELP!

1. I am thankful for the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT! (Thank You Lord for the Holy Spirit!!!!!!!! He is ALWAYS WITH ME, HALLELUJAH!)

2. I am thankful for help from MY SUPPORTIVE AND LOVING HUSBAND! (He is my greatest resource and best friend.)

3. I am thankful for help from MY WRITING SISTERS AND BROTHERS!
(I have thoroughly enjoyed “blogging”, connecting with new friends, and being taught so much. Yep, I am thankful for the Internet, too.)

4. I am thankful for help from MY CHILDREN! (They help me laugh daily, and they help me cast all my cares upon the Lord, and they help broaden my perspective on life! My young daughter helps her mama a lot!)

Tuesday's Truth- God's Faithfulness

GOD IS FAITHFUL!

I wrote the following many years ago.

“I was just marveling in God’s faithfulness. I hope and pray this week, as challenges and victories await us, that our souls find strength and refuge in God’s faithfulness.

Could I compare His faithfulness to…

The sun that sets each morning,
The falling of the autumn leaves,
The sound of the waves upon the shores,
The soft touch of a rose pedal,
The sun that rises each morning,
The blooming of spring flowers,
The sight of a blue sky,
The smell of the salt ocean,
The sun’s bright rays upon the morning dew,
The full bloom of a daffodil,
The taste of a sour apple,
The laughter that cheers the heart,
The tears that cry from the soul,
The love that both breaks and mends?

Can His faithfulness compare…
To those things which we depend upon,
That neither change, nor fail us?

No, great is Your faithfulness!
I know Lord that the world with all
Of its splendor and all of your marvelous creations
Shall fade way, but you
Oh, Lord will remain faithful.

Whatever you face sister, may these Scriptures lift you up… where you belong, in His faithfulness.

Tuesday's Truth- The Commonness of Temptation

Today I will elaborate on point one from my top 10 list to help overcome temptation. I will discuss the commonness of temptation. To see the top 10 list click here.
All Scriptures are listed in NIV.

II Corinthians 10:13 tells us that temptation is common. This is comforting for three reasons.

First, other people are going through the same thing even as I write. We can encourage and pray for one another as we go through trials and temptations. We can also offer words of advice on how God helped us personally get through our struggle.

Second, the Bible gives us countless examples of those who faced temptations in order that we may learn. Some fell (such as Samson with Delilah) and others did not (such as Joseph with Potiphar’s wife.) By studying these examples, we remind ourselves of the consequences of sin and the importance of drawing close to Jesus.

The third reason why temptation is common is because Jesus went before us and overcame. Consider the following Scriptures.

"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry". (Matthew 4:1-2)

Jesus was hungry and Satan tempted Jesus to eat. Satan also challenged who Jesus was and who Jesus would serve. Does not Satan still tempt us today in the same ways? He whispers to our weak flesh, our wants, our identity, and our belief in God. Satan wants us to question God and bow to the moment’s urge. Aren’t we thankful that Jesus Himself endured and overcame sin? Because of Jesus, we can endure our darkest hour without sinning. (And if we do sin can, we can turn to Him for forgiveness. I John 1:9)

"Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house". (Hebrews 2:18-3:2) "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin". (Hebrews 4:15)

In wrestling inwardly with greed or discontentment, I remind myself of how temporary life is and of Christ’s sacrifice. These Scriptures comfort me.

"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that". (I Timothy 7:8)

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want". (Philippians 4:12) (I don’t think having plenty is wrong, by the way! Being in need or having plenty, we should honor and serve Christ.)

I stand in awe of what Jesus endured and sacrificed for you and me. He had everything, God Himself, and yet He stepped down from heaven into human form. Why? He loved us so much and this love still draws us and keeps us today. He endured his darkest moments and now lives forever in glory, waiting for the sons of God to be revealed. (Galatians 3:26, Romans 8)

Our purpose, our design, and our destiny are far greater than just getting through the day or gaining more for our personal selves. May God mold each of us into His likeness and get even greater glory from our lives.

My prayer for you:
Father, I thank You that you are able to help my sister in her moment of temptation. Help her keep her thoughts fixed on You and not give in to Satan’s lies. May she know of her great worth in Christ, your unfailing love, and submit to You alone as Lord. May she tell of your faithfulness! In Jesus name.

Tuesday’s Top 10 list to help overcome temptation

Here I will share my most recent struggle with temptation and the truth that has helped me walk victoriously.

Lately I have felt uneasy about my life. My family is in a season of transition with my husband in full-time school and in between jobs. On top of that, I have not been offered the classes that I had hoped to teach this semester. And, the present state of our economy often adds to my unsettled mind.

With this unease, I have fought the urge to overspend. When I say overspend I mean that I am tempted to spend money I don’t have in order to buy things that I don’t need with something that I shouldn’t use (a credit card). In this situation I am tempted to look to something other than God to calm and quiet my heart.

The urge to do something “wrong” is not a sin. The urge to not do what we should is also not a sin. That “urge” is simply temptation. If we follow it and act upon it; it becomes sin.
(Notice that I am not expanding upon right and wrong. God’s Word is clear on many do’s and don’ts and the Holy Spirit brings personal conviction.)

Here is my top 10 list along with my Scripture meditation to help overcome temptation. Each week I will add a post and expand upon these truths one at a time.

1. TEMPTATION IS COMMON!
You and I are not alone in the temptations we face. We all have our weaknesses and struggles.

2. GOD IS FAITHFUL!
God alone quiets the heart. There is no substitute. So, waiting on the Lord becomes important.

3. YOU CAN BEAR IT!
Patience is developed in the midst of our trials and temptations. I know. I know. I don’t like it either.

4. LOOK FOR THE WAY OF ESCAPE!
God wants to build us up so that eventually the things of this world have no hold in us.

5. CALL FOR PRAYER!
Satan loves the dark. Bring your struggle to the light. Confide in someone you can trust and ask for prayer.

6. STAY ACCOUNTABLE!
Find an accountability partner. Find someone trustworthy who does not struggle with the same thing.

7. LOOK TO THE WORD!
Look into the Bible for answers. Ask God to give you specific Scriptures that will speak to your temptation.

8. SEEK COUNSELING IF NEEDED!
When you feel stuck, seek out a godly counselor.

9. SHUN ALL APPEARANCES OF EVIL!
Stay away from what entices you for a season until you are strong enough to be around it. For example, if overspending is your weakness, then get rid of the unnecessary credit cards.

10. EXPECT VICTORY! STAND UP UNDER IT!
Remember the One who has gone before you. Jesus overcame temptation and lived a sinless life. He has given us His Spirit to depend upon daily. Expect that you will overcome!!!

1. PRAYER
Before my little munchkins get up, I start my day with prayer. Sometimes that may mean 15 minutes, other times longer. But, I find a few minutes alone without interruption.

2. THANKSGIVING
Before my feet hit the floor, I thank God for anything and everything. This really helps get over feeling down or stuck when my day’s routine is the EXACT same as the day before.

3. COMMITMENT
Before I feel overwhelmed at life as usual, I commit every anxious or depressing thought that I have. I literally tell Him what concerns me and tell Him that it now belongs to Him. Then, when I “feel” that way again, I remind myself that God holds it in His hands.

4. EXPECT
Before I get in the mull grubs, I expect God to order my day and bring surprises along the way. GOOD ONES! I also look for where God is opening doors throughout the day. This may mean someone I come into contact with that day who needs encouragement or unexpected encouragement that comes my way.

5. ME TIME
Before I have a breakdown, I think of a time that day that I can have to myself. This may be a simple ten minute bath at the end of a long, exhausting day.

6. DETERMINE
Before I blame some circumstance, I determine that no one and nothing can steal my joyful heart. I decide that I will live through Christ and have his abundant life, no matter what comes my way.

7. MEDITATE
Before I listen to the crazy things happening in the world, I think on things that are good and pure. (And, when I don’t, I ask God to help me get back on track.)

8. PRAISE
Before I get weighted down, I surround myself with praise and worship music throughout the day, since I am at home with my kids.
I magnify God and not my surroundings. (He really IS bigger!)

9. SLEEP and EXERCISE
Before I get grumpy, I try to get enough sleep, because I function much better with it. Recently, I have been exercising regularly and my energy level has tripled!

10. DELIGHT IN THE LORD
Before I try to figure my life out, I spend my energies on knowing and pleasing the Lord in all I do! And, I remind myself that I do not have to be flawless to be loved and accepted by God! The truth is that abundant life comes through Christ alone, because of His sacrifice.

Girlfriend, try some of the above and watch out! BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, YOU WILL FIND THE ABUNDANT LIFE THAT CHRIST PURCHASED FOR YOU!

A PRAYER FOR YOU:
Lord, show your daughter who she is in Christ. Help her to live through Christ each day. May she experience Your abundant, satisfying, sustaining life.

Figuring out life…

John 10:10The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

I recently worked one day at a middle school as a clinic assistant. From where I sat I saw everyone who came into the office. One man walked in, looked around, stopped, and then, shrugged his shoulders. I laughed and said, “You look like me.” He said, “Yeah, I’m still trying to figure life out.”

Surrounded by an ever uncertain world, we all desperately want to figure out “life”. We want to know how we can live better, fuller, more satisfying and productive lives.
Daily, I desire to do more than just survive. I only know one way to do this; I must live not only in Christ, but through Christ!

Living in Christ began when we became Christians. Whether we feel like it or not, want to or not, we gave ourselves to God. We belong to Christ and are positioned in Him no matter what surrounds us. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Living through Christ requires daily walking with God. We must make a conscious choice to focus our thoughts on God and to draw closer to Him in the midst of the daily grind. Yes, abundant life is possible in the midst of any and every circumstance.

Abundant life is not complicated. Salvation was free and accepted by faith. We can believe God for this abundant life, daily, as we seek to know and love the giver of all life, Jesus Christ. As we follow and yield to Him, we find this life within us and through us- the very life of Christ Himself. 1 Corinthians 8:6
